Shore Conference Tournament - Bracket
Round of 16
(13) Monmouth 10, (4) Jackson Liberty 5
Ricky Voss went 2-for-3 with a go-ahead grand slam in the top of the fourth inning that proved the big swing in a Falcons (17-9) win over the Lions (20-4) in the SCT round of 16.
Voss opened the scoring with an RBI single to kick start Monmouth's three-run third before Eli Rife (2-for-3) added a two-run single to cap it, but Jackson Liberty answered with four in the bottom of the inning to take its first and only lead.
Daniel Sofield led off the third with a solo home run and Charlie Rudderow drilled a go-ahead three-run homer later in the frame. Rudderow finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and Sofield was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Anthony Guarino delivered an RBI single with the bases loaded in the top of the fourth to tie the game and set up Voss for his big swing.
Nick Bogan gave up all five runs - four of which were earned - while picking up the win and Seth Gonzales fired three scoreless, two-hit innings of relief with three strikeouts and one walk to earn the save.
Rich Dordas too the loss after taking over for starter Kevin Ritz to start the fourth inning and Shane Hickey threw 66 pitches over 3 2/3 to finish the game off for Jackson Liberty, which will now prepare to face defending NJSIAA Group III champion Allentown Tuesday in the Central Jersey Group III semifinals.
