(7) Monmouth 2, (10) Freehold 1 (8 Innings)

Andrew Slinger delivered a game-winning RBI single to score Christian Hoplock in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Falcons (5-4) walked off with a win over the Colonials (7-7) to advance to next Saturday's Monmouth County Tournament quarterfinals.

Hoplock was 2-for-4 with a go-ahead RBI double in the sixth for Monmouth, and also singled to start the winning rally in the eighth. Garhett Reedy was also 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for the Falcons.

Freehold tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh to send the game into extra innings, with Ryan Yee doubling and scoring on an RBI single by Marco Meleo. Yee also tripled to help spark the Freehold offense.

Corey Shevlin allowed a run on six hits while striking out five to take a no-decision for Monmouth, while counterpart Dante Cuzzolino also gave up just a run in seven innings for Freehold. Christian DeFazio pitched a scoreless eighth inning to earn the win in relief.

 

Class A North

Howell 7, Middletown North 6

Rob Napolitano capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off RBI single and the Rebels (6-4, 5-4) beat the Lions (3-6, 2-5) for their third walk-off win of the season. Napolitano also homered and finished 2-for-4 with three RBI in the win.

Justin Steel went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI, including a game-tying two-run single in the seventh. Connor Boyle was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, while Tory Miller went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI in the win.

Walter Schopf was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI for Middletown North and Tyler Ras also went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.

Middletown South 9, Manalapan 3

Johnny Zega plates two runs on the first of his two hits to ignite the Eagles (8-5, 5-4) to a win over the Braves (8-5, 3-5), the eighth in nine games for Middletown South since opening the season 0-4. Zega's first-inning two-run double started the 10-hit Middletown South attack and Nolan Pereless and Ben Porpora also added two hits apiece, with Austin Markmann also adding a double.

Zac deRocco surrendered two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run double by Jake Sadowitz, then shut out Manalapan over his final five innings of work while striking out a total of six in the win.

No. 2 CBA 15, No. 3 Marlboro 2

The Colts (10-1, 7-1) broke open a tie game with nine runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull away with a win over the Mustangs (7-3, 5-3). Brandon Martorano began the inning with a double to the wall in left field and later belted a two-run double to nearly the same spot in left to put CBA ahead, 9-2.

Shane Turk plated the winning run in the sixth with a ground out to shortstop and Cid Porter made it five two with a two-run single to center. Porter finished 4-for-5 with hits in each of his last four plate appearances to go with two runs scored and three RBI. His first hit was a double in the top of the third, his sixth double of the season.

Andrew Buccellatto was 2-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI, while Matt D'Angelo went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Martorano finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored to go with his two doubles and two RBI. Will Morgan was also 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

The late-game outburst was plenty of support for starter Luca Dalatri, who allowed two earned runs on five hits while walking none and striking out 11. Marlboro took two separate one-run leads against Dalatri, once on an RBI single by by Gene Napolitano to open the scoring in the second inning and again on an RBI single by Steve Santigate to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Dalatri also went 2-for-5 with two RBI in the nine-run sixth.

Brian Reilly and Phil Saglietto both doubled and scored for Marlboro. Andrew Nardi allowed two runs on five hits and two walks over 4 2/3 innings in taking the no-decision for Marlboro.

 

Class A Central

Rumson-Fair Haven 1, Shore 0

Morgan Maguire pitched five shutout innings and drove in the lone run of the game with an RBI single in the third inning to lead the Bulldogs (2-6, 2-4) to a win over the Blue Devils (5-5, 4-4), snapping a six-game skid. Maguire allowed three hits and a walk while striking out eight.

Max Goione walked and scored on Maguire's single and also pitched the final two innings without allowing a hit to earn the save.

Devin McLaughlin pitched a complete-game two-hitter in defeat, allowing one unearned run and a walk while fanning seven.

Raritan 14, Manasquan 4 (6 Innings)

Bo Bentley hit a three-run homer to highlight a seven-run third inning and Matt Birsall bounced back after allowing three runs in the first to throw a six-inning complete game as the Rockets (7-3, 4-3) beat the Warriors (5-5, 5-3) for the second time this season.

Birdsall gave up a three-run home run to Tanner Cowley in the top of the first inning, but settled in and allowed only five hits over six innings to pick up the win. Jon Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI, while Tom Pulcine finished 2-for-4 with four RBI to lead the Raritan attack.

 

Class A South

Jackson Memorial 8, Toms River East 6

Matt Crispe plated the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the sixth and the Jaguars (7-4, 6-3) held on to beat the Raiders (3-5, 3-5) for their sixth straight win. Brandon Janofsky singled, doubled and drove in a pair, while Rich Rountree added a key two-run single in the seventh to help Jackson Memorial put the game away while also upping his Shore-Conference-leading RBI total to 18.

Kyle Lona and Kyle Johnson each added run-scoring singles for Jackson Memorial, while Jim Plaganis pitched three innings of relief to earn the win.

Chad Leonard finished 2-for-4 with a double, while Josh Sommerer was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Nick D'Arcy doubled home a run and scored, while Bailey Engelhard and Will Johnson each added an RBI single for Toms River East.

 

Class B North

Red Bank 5, Long Branch 1

Ryan Santos was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Connor Kelly was 2-for-3 with an RBI in support of starter Matt Reardon as the Bucs (4-6, 3-4) topped the Green Wave (1-10, 1-6). Reardon struck out seven while allowing a run on three hits over his five innings of work.

John Juco also went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for Red Bank, while Isaiah Sestito was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Austin Cannon finished 2-for-3 and drove in the lone run for Long Branch.

Wall 11, Matawan 4

Regan Dombroski and Sean Larkin each went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI as the Crimson Knights (7-4, 4-3) rolled to a win over the Huskies (3-7, 3-4). Brendan Barcas also doubled and drove in three runs for Wall, while Nick Maciejewski was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Ryan Orender, Nick Martinez and Mike Yard each went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI in the win, with Ordender adding a double.

Joe Piscopo and Matt Esposito were each 2-for-3 with a run scored, with Piscopo also driving in two. Billy Rodriguez also drove in two runs for Matawan.

No. 5 Colts Neck 5, No. 8 Ocean 2

Chris Murphy struck out 12 in a complete-game four-hitter and the Cougars (10-3, 7-0) topped the Spartans (8-3, 2-3) to remain unbeaten in Class B North play. Tyler Kay went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored to lead the Colts Neck offense, while Sam Maxwell was 2-for-3 for Ocean.

 

Class B Central

St. Rose 11, Keansburg 1

Kyle Missry led a relentless St. Rose offense by going 2-for-3 with four RBI and the Purple Roses (8-3, 6-1) coasted to a win over the Titans (3-5, 3-5). Mike Gowen and John Kussmaul were each 2-for-4 with a double, while Travis Cloney and Riley Maypother each went 1-for-1 with a triple. Cloney also scored two runs and drove in two as well.

Gannon Meyer drove in the lone Keansburg run and finished 1-for-1.

 

Class B South

Central 4, No. 10 Barnegat 2

Anthony Arneth fired a complete-game to outduel John Corbett and pitch the Golden Eagles (5-5, 4-4) past the Bengals (6-4, 6-2) - snapping a five-game Class B South winning streak for Barnegat.

Arneth scattered six hits and struck out five over his seven innings of work, including a key punchout of Barnegat junior Jared Kacso to end the sixth with the tying and go-ahead runs on base.

Central scored three runs in the second inning without a hit and added a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Joe Firetto to scored pinch-runner Mike Quicked, who came on to run after John Forrester started the rally with a double.

Barnegat cut the Central lead to 3-2 in the top of the sixth on a two-out, two-run single single by Collin O'Conner, who finished 2-for-4.

No. 10 Donovan Catholic 7, Lakewood 4

Russ Petranto and Matt Drake both homered and the Griffins (8-2, 5-1) won their fifth straight and moved into sole possession of first place in Class B South by beating the Piners (1-8, 1-7). Petranto finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Drake was 1-for-2 with two RBI and hit his home run on the 11th pitch of the at-bat.

Mike Marron was a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored, his second 3-for-3 game in as many days. Charlie Dimino also went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in the win.

Eric Segui went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI for Lakewood, while Jaso Holguin was 2-for-3 with a double in the loss.

 

Non-Division

Brick 7, Manchester 0

Nick Moglia went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead a Brick offense that backed up starter Brandon Weber as the Green Dragons (6-5) blanked the Hawks (5-5) to snap a three-game skid. Weber allowed five hits over five innings of shutout ball before Hunter Rizzuto came on to nail down the the shutout with two scoreless innings of relief.

Dan Berg went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Carmen Sclafani was 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored in the win.

Steve Rodriguez went 2-for-4 to lead the Manchester lineup.

Lacey 6, Pinelands 4

Ray Hughes allowed two runs on five hits and no walks while striking out six in five innings of work for his first varsity win as the Lions (5-7) edged the Wildcats (3-6). Brandon Haggerty went 1-for-2 with two RBI, while Rich Hurley was 1-for-1 with a double and an RBI for Lacey.

Mitch Merrill and Dave DeFeo were each 2-for-4 for Pinelands, with DeFeo driving in a run and Merrill adding a double.
