Class A North

Freehold 1, Freehold Twp. 0 (9 Innings)

Tom Holdorf led off the bottom of the ninth with a double and scored on a game-winning sacrifice fly by Frank Granato as the Colonials (6-6, 3-4) walked off with a win over the rival Patriots (5-5, 2-5).

Steven Rullo tossed eight scoreless innings before passing the ball to James Manos, who earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief.

Ralph Gambino struck out 10 while allowing only three hits in 7 1/3 innings for Freehold Township. John Carroll went 2-for-4 with two doubles in the loss.

Middletown North at No. 3 Marlboro - PPD, Monday, 4 p.m.

 

Class A Central

Raritan 4, Rumson-Fair Haven 2 (8 Innings)

Junior Bo Bentley hit a go-ahead RBI double to ignite a three-run top of the eighth inning for Raritan as the Rockets (6-3, 3-3) outlasted the Bulldogs (1-5, 1-4). Jon Guccione was 2-for-4 with a run scored for Raritan.

Jon Rodriguez struck out seven in seven innings for Raritan, surrending his lone run on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh that sent the game into extra innings.

Senior right-hander Morgan Maguire pitched five shutout innings with eight strikeouts for Rumson while also going 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI for the Bulldogs. Matt Fahey also finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for the Rumson.

Shore 2, No. 6 St. John Vianney 0

Senior right-hander James Kelly fired a three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and the Blue Devils (5-3, 4-2) topped the Lancers (6-2, 4-2), ending their five-game winning streak. Mike O'Halloran ripped an RBI double in the fourth inning to stretch Shore's lead to 2-0.

John Michael Broderick allowed only two hits and a walk while striking out five in taking the loss for St. John Vianney.

Manasquan 7, Monmouth 6

Tommy Sheehan drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning and Jack Sheehan struck out consecutive hitters to strand runners on second and third in the top of the seventh as the Warriors (4-4, 4-2) outlasted the Falcons (4-4, 4-2). Jack Sheehan struck out three in two innings of relief to improve to 3-0.

Matt Edwards wen 2-for-3 with a two-run doubled in the third and Adam Schreck picked up a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth for Manasquan. Christian Hoplock went 3-for-4 with a double for Monmouth, while Josh Jackson hit a two-run single during a three-run first inning for the Falcons.

 

Class A South

No. 1 Toms River North at Brick Memorial - PPD, TBD

Toms River East 7, Southern 6

Chad Leonard hit a tie-breaking RBi single in the fourth and finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI to help the Raiders (3-3, 3-3) edge the Rams (3-7, 2-6).

Jon Meola also went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI, while Will Johnson picked up two RBI with a two-run single in the third. Matt Corsi also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the win.

Kevin Brown allowed one hit and two walks while striking out four in 2 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win.

Mike Lee hit a three-run home run to tie the game in the bottom of the third for Southern, while Antonio Dinis wasn 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI in the loss.

Jackson Memorial 8, No. 7 Toms River South 5 (8 Innings)

Junior Chris Hawryluk tripled in the go-ahead run with two out in the top of the eighth and pitched 2 2/3 of relief to earn the win as the Jaguars (5-4, 4-3) won a hard-fought game against the Indians (5-3, 5-2). Hawryluk got out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh to help push the game to extras before coming up with the winning triple in the next half-inning.

Rich Rountree added an RBI single in the top of the eighth to give Jackson Memorial some insurance. Brandon Janofsky finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and Kyle Lona roped a two-run double in the third to give Jackson Memorial a 5-2 lead.

Anthony Carfora pitched three scoreless frames of relief before running into trouble in the eighth. He also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a run scored in Toms River South's three-run third inning.

Lacey 5, Brick 4

Sophomores Anthony Ellefante both went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI each in support of winning pitcher Brett Kinsey as the Lions (4-5, 3-4) took down the Green Dragons (5-4, 4-3). Kinsey scattered six hits over 5 1/3 innings while striking out two.

Tom Corragio struck out three in 1 2/3 innings of relief to nail down the save for Lacey. Carmen Sclafani went 2-for-4 with two runs scored to lead Brick.

 

Class B North

No. 8 Ocean at Red Bank - PPD, Saturday, 11 a.m.

Wall 15, Neptune 3

Senior Dan Wondrack went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double and five RBI to lead the Crimson Knights (5-4, 3-3) offensive attack in a win over the Scarlet Fliers (2-7, 1-6). Regan Dombrowski also went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the win, while Nick Maciejewski added a triple in the win.

George Barreto was 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead Neptune.

No. 5 Colts Neck 7, No. 4 Red Bank Catholic 4

Junior shortstop Tim Cavrak hit a tie-breaking home run in the top of the fifth inning and the Cougars (9-1, 6-0) rallied to hand the Caseys (7-1, 5-1) their first loss of the season and move into sole possession of first place in Class B North.

Cavrak launched a 0-2 offering from Red Bank Catholic starter Jack Ipsen over the left-field fence for his first high school home run, giving Colts Neck a 5-4 lead. Colts Neck tied the game in the top of the fourth on a two-out, bases-clearing three-run triple to deep right by junior left fielder and No. 9 hitter Andrew Conforti.

Cavrak finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while second baseman Sam DeVitis was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.

Red Bank Catholic took the lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Tom Merlo and an RBI triple by junior Doug Facendo to put the Caseys ahead, 2-1. Sophomore Aaron Ahn made it 4-1 in the bottom of the third when he smoked a one-out, two-run double to deep center field.

Senior left-hander Mario Ferraioli lasted five innings to earn the win, surrendering two earned runs on six hits while walking two and striking out six to improve to 4-0. Senior left-hander Chris Murphy allowed a hit and a walk over the final two frames while striking out three to pick up the save. He ended the game by picking off Mike Ianelli at first base with a 3-0 count on Ahn at the plate.

Junior shortstop Evan Madigan was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored out of the leadoff spot for RBC. Facendo finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Ahn was 1-for-2 and Merlo 2-for-4 with a run scored.

 

Class B Central

Keansburg at Henry Hudson - PPD, Saturday, 10 a.m.

Point Beach 14, Asbury Park 4 (5 Innings)

Five Point Beach players had perfect days at the plate and the Garnet Gulls (7-1, 7-1) beat the Blue Bishops (0-5, 0-5) in five innings. Mike Frauenheim finished 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI to lead the way, while Joe Delgrippo double, two runs, two RBI), John Daly (three RBI) and Josh Yates (a run and RBI) all went 2-for-2. John Nista was also 1-for-1 with three runs scored.

St. Rose 9, Ranney 1

Joe Volpe went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, two runs scored and an RBI to help lead the Purple Roses (6-3, 4-1) to a win over the Panthers (1-5, 1-5).

Brendan Hueth and Kyle Missry each went 1-for-2 with a double, with Hueth scoring two runs and Missry driving in three. John Kussmaul and Nick DelRusso each went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Ryan Scharfenberg allowed a run on four hits and one walk while striking out five to pick up the win. James Geraghty went 2-for-2 with a double for Ranney.

At FirstEnergy Park, Lakewood

Mater Dei Prep 5, Keyport 2 (10 Innings)

Joe Ruth and Vinny Stanziale combined on a one-hitter over 10 innings and Cole Hardy singled home a run in the top of the 10th to break the tie as the Seraphs (6-3, 6-1) survived an extra-inning affair against the Red Raiders (4-4, 4-4).

Ruth allowed two earned runs on one hit and seven walks while striking out seven over the first seven innings. Ruth also tacked on a pair of runs in the 10th inning with a two-run double. Stanziale earned with win with three scoreless innings of no-hit ball while walking one and striking out two.

Jackson Aumack had the lone Keyport hit, a bunt single in the seventh to break up Ruth's no-hitter. Two innings earlier, Keyport tied the game at two on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Mitchell. Christian Smith lasted 9 2/3 innings on the mound for Keyport.

 

Class B South

Manchester 4, Point Boro 3

Jon Meaney delivered a go-ahead three-run double in the top of the sixth inning and the Hawks (5-3, 4-3) rallied for a win over the Panthers (5-6, 3-5). Pat Williams started the inning with a single and also hit a solo home run in the top of the third to get Manchester on the board.

Sophomore Joe Felipe worked 6 1/3 innings to earn the win, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out seven. Ricky Bustamante needed only five pitches to earn the save, inducing a fly out to center before ending the game with a strikeout.

Mark Leyble went 2-for-3 with two RBI for Point Boro, including a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to trim the Manchester lead to 4-3.

Jackson Liberty 7, Central 3

Matt Pinto and Kyle Tavaska each collected two hits and three runs scored and Howard Taylor keyed a three-run second with a two-run single as the Lions (4-4, 4-2) beat the Golden Eagles (4-4, 3-3) on the road. Tavaska finished 2-for-4 with a double at the plate, while Pinto went 2-for-3 to up his season average to .571.

Brandon Pallante allowed five hits and a walk while striking out three to earn the win on the mound for Jackson Liberty. Frank Rose was 2-for-3 with a run scored and three stolen bases for Central.

Lakewood at No. 10 Donovan Catholic - PPD, Friday

No. 9 Barnegat 10, Pinelands 0 (5 Innings)

Senior Seamus Brazill pitched a five-inning one-hitter with nine strikeouts to avenge an opening-day loss to Pinelands as the Bengals (5-3, 5-1) rolled to a win over the Wildcats (3-5, 2-4).

Sophomore Justin Diefenbach hit an RBI single in a four-run Barnegat fourth and added an two-run single in a four-run third to cap a three-RBI game. Jared Kacso and Nik Fraim hit back-to-back doubles to plate another run in the fifth and John Corbett ended the game with an RBI single to plate the 10th run.

 

Non-Conference

Carteret 7, Matawan 6
