Opening Round

(16) Middletown South 8, (17) Manasquan 7

Jeff Lewandowski drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the winning run, capping a four-run bottom-of-the-seventh inning that pushed the Eagles (4-5) past the Warriors (3-3) and into the MCT round of 16 Saturday against top-seeded Colts Neck.

Junior catcher Zach Schild tied the game in the seventh with a two-run double, part of a 3-for-4 game at the plate for Schild. Nolan Pereless got Middletown South started early with a two-out, three-run triple in the bottom of the second.

Colin Bergin and Bobby Gyrundak combined for 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to finish off the game, with Bergin picking up the win.

Matt Edwards and Jack Sheehan each had two hits to lead the Manasquan offense.

(11) Manalapan 7, (22) Long Branch 3

Ryan McGrane ignited the Manalapan offense with a three-run double in the first and the Braves (6-4) held off the Green Wave (1-8) to advance to a round-of-16 game at No. 6 Howell on Saturday.

Jake Sadowitz also went 2-for-4 with a two-run single in the fourth and Stephen Carbonara was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI in the win. Chris Rodriguez also chipped in a double, while sophomore Jake Prudder allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings to pick up his first varsity win.

Nick Conklin homered and freshman Matt Mincieli added a double for Long Branch.

(10) Freehold 6, (23) Red Bank 1

Ryan Yee hit a two-run double to key a five-run second inning that propelled the Colonials (5-5) to a win over the Bucs (2-6) in the MCT opening round. Freehold will visit No. 7 Monmouth in Saturday's round of 16.

Steve Rullo allowed one run on four hits and a walk while striking out two to pick up the win on the mound.

 

Class A North

No. 4 CBA 13, Middletown North 1 (5 Innings)

Will Morgan doubled, tripled, homered and drove in four runs in support of winning pitcher Mike Garvey as the Colts (7-1, 4-1) rolled to a win over the Lions (3-4, 2-4), who dropped their fourth straight. Garvey allowed one hit and two walks while striking out three in a five-inning complete game.

Luca Dalatri added a two-run home run in a nine-run fourth inning for CBA, while Andrew Buccellatto added a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in two runs.

 

Class A South

Jackson Memorial at Toms River East - PPD, TBA

No. 1 Toms River North at Lacey - PPD, Wednesday, 3:45 p.m.

Southern 5, Brick Memorial 3

Jared Lubanski allowed two earned runs on three hits while striking out six and the Rams (2-6, 2-5) scored four times in the third inning and held on to beat the Mustangs (3-8, 0-6).

Jared Haugland hit a solo home run in the first inning to open the scoring and after Brick Memorial took a 3-1 lead with three runs in the top of the third, Southern answered with four in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a two-out RBI single by Matt Malatesta.

Ronnie Velardi finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Noah Brown was 2-for-2 with a run scored for Southern.

No. 8 Brick at No. 5 Toms River South - PPD, TBD

 

Class B Central

Point Beach 5, Keansburg 2

John VanSchoick went 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI and the Garnet Gulls (6-1, 6-1) overcame early deficit to beat the Titans (3-3, 3-3). John Nista allowed two runs on four hits and five walks while striking out five in five innings to earn the win.

Andrew Allegretta went 3-for-4 with a run scored and Joe Delgrippo was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Ian Terry hit what appeared to be a three-run home run in the first inning, but settled for a two-run triple when he was called out for failing to touch home plate. Terry now has 19 RBI for the season.

Keyport 17, Asbury Park 1 (5 Innings)

Robert Hila tripled and drove in three runs and Justice Johnson doubled and drove in four as the Red Raiders (4-3, 4-3) took advantage of 13 walks on the way to a win over the Blue Bishops (0-4, 0-4).

Jake Caverly finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Steven Chandler was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI while also tossing three shutout innings to earn the win. Chandler allowed three hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Sal Swain went 3-for-3 to lead Asbury Park.

Mater Dei Prep 12, Ranney 2 (5 Innings)

Cole Hardy homered and drove in four runs and Nick Roditis pitched a five-inning complete game in his first varsity start to lead the Seraphs (5-2, 5-1) to a win over the Panthers (1-4, 1-4).

Hardy finished 3-for-5 with a double, homer, and four RBI, while Kyle Dowen was 2-for-2 with a double, four runs scored, two RBI and three stolen bases. Roditis allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four.

Kiran Shah went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored and James Geraghty knocked in a run with an RBI single in the first for Ranney.

St. Rose 11, Henry Hudson 1 (5 Innings)

Travis Cloney struck out five in four one-hits innings and drove in three runs in a four-hit game to lead the Purple Roses (4-3, 3-1) to a win over the Admirals (0-5, 0-5). Kyle Missry had five hits and drove in four runs, and Mike Gowen knocked in three runs on three hits in the win.

 

Class B South

Point Boro 7, Pinelands 3

Junior shortstop Sam Monaco was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI in support of winning pitcher Mike Falconetti as the Panthers (3-5, 2-4) handed the Wildcats (3-4, 2-3) their fourth straight loss. Falconetti allowed three runs on six his with three walks and three strikeouts in earning the victory.

Bill Feehan finished 2-for-3 with and RBI and Gabe Pesante was 1-for-2 with two runs scored for Point Boro, which scored three runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach for Pinelands. Monaco and Feehan each had an RBI single in the rally, which began with two out.

Dave DeFeo hit a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to cut the Point Boro lead to 4-3 and Jared Strang was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for the Wildcats.
