NJSIAA Tournament
Sectional Finals
Central Jersey Group IV

(5) Jackson Memorial 6, (6) Monroe 2

Junior right-hander Brandon Janofsky went the distance on the mound and hit a tie-breaking solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth as the Jaguars beat the Falcons to capture their fourth ever sectional championship and first since 2010.

Junior left fielder Rich Rountree delivered a key two-out, three-run double off the left-center field fence later in the fifth to give Janofsky a four-run cushion the rest of the way and after Monroe put two runners on in the top of the seventh, he recorded the final out to nail down the win with a six-hitter. Kyle Lona and Joe DeMaio added RBI singles in the victory.

Jackson Memorial will play South Jersey Group IV champion Eastern Tuesday in the Group IV semifinal at Overbrook High School.

Central Jersey Group II

(2) Robbinsville 7, (5) Rumson-Fair Haven 0

Junior right-hander Mike Fischer fired a two-hit shutout with four strikeouts and one walk and the Ravens pulled away with six runs in the sixth inning to beat the Bulldogs and capture the Central Jersey Group II title for their first sectional championship since 2010. Robbinsville also went through the Shore Conference to win that title as well, beating Henry Hudson, 5-4, in the sectional final.

Rumson senior right-hander Shane McCarthy got through the first four innings without allowing a run and recorded the first two outs of the fifth before Robbinsville rallied for the game's first run. McCarthy hit No. 8 hitter Alex Matt and allowed a single to No. 9 hitter Ben Sanders before Dan McKiernan plated the game's first run with an RBI single.

Sanders finished 3-for-3 out of the No. 9 hole, including a two-run double in the six-run sixth.

Juniors Max Goione and Morgan Maguire each had a hit apiece for Rumson.

Central Jersey Group I

(6) Shore 3, (5) New Egypt 2

Senior Andrew Schulz homered, drove in all three runs and started the game-ending double play that was ruled baserunner interference, giving Shore a win over the Warriors for their first sectional championship since reaching the overall Group II final in 2009.

Junior starter James Kelly - who went the distance for the win - deflected a line drive off the bat of New Egypt right fielder Bryan Atchley and Schulz fielded it with time to turn a double play to end the game. He flipped the ball to shortstop Clayton Coffey, whose throw hit baserunner Trevor Buckalew when Buckalew did not slide. The field umpire ruled baserunner interference on Buckalew, officially ending the game.

Kelly also induced a 6-4, inning-ending double play with runners on first and third to end the sixth inning and Shore clinging to a one-run lead. The junior right-hander finished with five strikeouts and allowed seven hits, only one of which came after the third inning.

Schulz gave Shore a 2-1 lead with a two-run home run to left field in the top of the third inning. New Egypt tied the game in the bottom of the frame when Buckalew doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a throwing error on a bunt single by Atchley. Atchley also drove in New Egypt's first run with an RBI bloop single in the bottom of the first.

Schulz gave Shore the lead with an RBI single to right-center on a 3-0 pitch that scored Coffey in the top of the fifth.

Shore senior center fielder Matt Cosentino saved Kelly a run in the bottom of the second inning when he threw out New Egypt baser-runner Shane Galant at the plate. Galant was attempting to score on a two-out single by first baseman Dan Fernicola, but Cosentino's one-hop rocket to the plate beat him by several steps for the last out of the second.

Shore will play South Jersey Group I champion Pennsville Tuesday in the overall Group I semifinal at Monmouth University.

South Jersey Group II

(3) Buena 1, (1) Barnegat 0

Sophomore left-hander Jason Groome pitched a two-hitter with two walks and a career-high 17 strikeouts, but an unearned run in the top of the seventh and a two-hit gem by Buena junior right-hander Denny Brady cost the Bengals a shot at their first ever sectional title and gave the Chiefs their second in three years.

Groome walked Brady to lead off the seventh inning, which was the first baserunner the sophomore allowed since the second inning. Courtesy runner Eddie Shepard scored the winning run on a passed ball with two out before Groome got the inning-ending strikeout.

Brady finished with nine strikeouts and walked only one while improving to 9-0. Buena will play Central Jersey Group II champion Robbinsville in Tuesday's overall Group II semifinal.

Sectional Semifinals
South Jersey, Non-Public A

(8) St. John Vianney 13, (4) CBA 9

Senior first baseman Joe Rotelli continued his torrid hitting during the NJSIAA Tournament by going 3-for-4 with a double and five RBI and the Lancers offense outslugged the Colts to advance to the sectional final against No. 2 seed and four-time defending state champion Gloucester Catholic (the last two in Non-Public A, the previous two in Non-Public B) on Tuesday at Rowan University.

Rotelli is now 7-for-12 with a home run, four doubles and nine RBI during the NJSIAA Tournament. Center fielder Chris Loney also went 3-for-3 with a two-run double and four runs scored and is 5-for-his-last-6 with a homer, a double, six runs scored and five RBI. Evan Pietronico was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and is now 6-for-10 with two doubles and six runs scored in the tournament.

CBA senior Pete Papcun and sophomore Luca Dalatri hit back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game at two. Papcun finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI.

Senior John Moschella also had a two-run double in the fourth to pull CBA within 5-4 and Andrew Buccellato finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.
