Red Bank Catholic senior shortstop Evan Madigan made a verbal commitment to Bucknell University Thursday, according to Caseys head coach Buddy Hausmann.

Madigan is a two-year varsity starter for the Caseys and played shortstop full time last year after playing predominantly second base alongside Coastal Carolina sophomore and Philadelphia Phillies draft pick Al Molina, who was the starter at shortstop.

After a solid debut as a sophomore, Madigan had a breakout junior season in which he hit .451 with eight doubles, three triples and a home run while being named to the Shore Sports Network All-Shore First Team. He also stole 17 bases and finished second in the Shore Conference with 46 hits.

This upcoming season, Bucknell returns Jackson Memorial alumni Joe Ogren, who led the 24-22 Bison in nine major statistical categories as a junior: batting (.357), on-base percentage (.463), slugging percentage (.536), home runs (5), runs scored (39), RBI (28), hits (60), walks (27) and stolen bases (7). With Ogren set to graduate in the spring of 2016, Madigan will look to continue the lineage of Jersey Shore middle infielders for the Patriot League program.

Madigan is also a two-year starter on the RBC basketball team and averaged 10.4 points per game as a junior.
