Christian Brothers Academy catcher Brandon Martorano, one of the top players in the nation in the Class of 2016, announced on Tuesday that he has verbally committed to the University of North Carolina.

Martorano played on the 15U U.S. National Team this summer that won the COPABE Pan American Championships in Colombia. He also saw varsity action for CBA as a freshman last season, going 3-for-16, scoring 7 runs and belting a home run.

Martorano, who cannot officially sign his National Letter of Intent for the Tar Heels until his senior year, has committed to a program that currently includes former CBA star Joe Dudek, a freshman first baseman.
