Toms River South Class of 2017 infielder Ben Montenegro last week joined classmate Justin Fall as a Division I commit by giving his verbal commitment to play at Wagner College next year.

Montenegro batted .308 with four home runs, five doubles and 18 RBI as a junior in 2016, helping the Indians win the Indians win their first outright Shore Conference Class A South title since 2010. The left-handed-swinging senior primarily played third base for Toms River South and spent the season in the middle of the Indians lineup.

The last of Montenegro's four home runs this past season was a two-run blast that helped spark a 7-0 Toms River South win over Delsea in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group III quarterfinals.

Montenegro opted for Wagner over Marist, Columbia, Dartmouth and Hofstra and is the second Toms River South player to commit to to a Division I program, joining Fall - a left-handed pitcher. Earlier this month, Fall announced his commitment to pitch at St. John's.

This story was updated to reflect that Justin Fall has verballed to St. John's. It initially incorrectly read that he verballed to Rutgers.
