Team Outlook
The Scarlet Fliers were a junior-heavy squad that relied on a couple of standout seniors and while that combination was good for only four wins, two of those wins came against Freehold and Wall. The Scarlet Fliers’ 6-2 win over Wall behind a combined no-hitter by Kevin Welsh and Latrell Jones was the shocker of the year, especially considering that Wall was rolling at the time and went on to beat CBA in the Monmouth County Tournament semifinals.
Welsh, Jones and senior Bobby Knee will lead the effort at Neptune this year as the Fliers look to build on last year’s late-season win over the eventual division champion. With many of the juniors from a year ago back, Neptune could end up in the top four of the division if one of Freehold, Red Bank and Matawan slip up.
