High school basketball and wrestling practice officially began on Monday but many teams are missing some of their top athletes because they are still playing football as this is championship weekend in New Jersey. When the dust settles Sunday night 23 teams will have earned NJSIAA sectional titles and as many as seven of them could be from the shore.

There are actually nine teams from Ocean and Monmouth County playing in title games tomorrow and we’re assured of at least two champions because of head-to-head matchups that will take place at Rutgers University. Rivals Brick Memorial and Jackson Memorial will face one another in the Central Jersey Group 4 final at 4 p.m. with the Jaguars trying to make it back-to-back titles against a Mustangs team that beat them 28-7 back in October.

Following that game it’s the battle of Ridge Road as two-time defending Central Jersey Group 3 champion Rumson meets undefeated Red Bank who is trying to cap a perfect season with their first sectional crown since 1975. Both those games will be broadcast live on the Shore Sports Network’s NewsTalk Radio WOBM 1160 & 1310AM and streamed at shoresportsnetwork.com. The first of four games at Rutgers tomorrow finds St. John Vianney looking to conclude a perfect season when they take on DePaul at 10am.

Toms River North goes after its first state title since 2007 when they play Williamstown tomorrow night at 6pm at Rowan University. Led by Mike Husni, Asante Moorer and Da’Shon Copes the Mariners are riding a 9-game winning streak. Also seeking titles tomorrow will be the shore and state’s top-ranked team Middletown South who will collide with Phillipsburg at MetLife Stadium (7 p.m.) while at Kean University Shore meets Palmyra and upstart Raritan battles Lincoln.

Our Shore Sports Network will have reporters and photographers at all 7 games so visit shoresportsnetwork.com for updates and details, you can also view our experts picks for those games.
